While in the Dallas area I came across this American Brides Exhibit. It was an incredible exhibit. If you are near Denton I would recommend to come check out this classic bridal exhibit. With inspirational designs and compelling fashion history it has a lot to offer.

Designer Spotlights

Alisa Otto
"Sew Bits" 2012

I absolutely loved this dress! It is modern and elegant, yet the mix of fabric swatches makes it more of a fun style for a unique type of bride. One of my favorite things about this wedding gown is that it is made of natural materials, like white hemp and silk dupioni. Alisa Otto is an impressive designer with a distinctive style. She prefers to use previously worn materials and tries to produce her designs with as little waste as possible. She started the company Beehart in 2008, which features bright, beautiful designs, made from vintage materials.
Michael Faircloth

Designer: Linda Ohrn-McDaniel
2008
Linda had designed this dress for her own wedding. The underdress is embroidered with words from the Swedish language. The overdress has cut outs to reveal the embroidery underneath. Linda wore the entire ensemble for the wedding, but only the undedress for the reception.

Designer: Matthew Earnest
2009
This dress is a simple and classic white dress worn with a navy Spencer jacket. The dress was worn by Allison V. Smith who decided to have Earnest create a full length dress for the ceremony, then cut it below the knee for the reception.

6 Reasons to Avoid Fast Fashion

What is Fast Fashion?

Picture
Fast fashion is the process of creating high quantities of clothes quickly after runway trends are released and selling them for low prices. Many of these items are made in underdeveloped countries. Stores similar to Forever 21, H&M, and A’Gaci are examples of Fast Fashion.

6 Reason Why It Should Be Avoided

Picture
·      9 million tons of clothing items are thrown away annually

·      More demand means more pollution from factories in countries with little to no emission standards

·      About 1,200 factory workers in Bangladesh were killed last year due to poor factory maintenance

·      Factory workers are affected from harsh chemicals used in dyes

·      Shortening deadlines for factory workers, increasing their hours to 13-14 hours per day without  a break

·      Synthetic products do not decompose in landfills

The best way to put an end to these horrible conditions is to reduce our consumption, especially of fast fashion clothing. If for some reason you still find yourself browser through one of these stores, check the tag. It is always safest to with items made in the U.S. or a European country. H&M, Gap, Zara, and a few other companies have made some initiative towards becoming more sustainable and ethical companies. Check the tags to be sure you are purchasing one of the sustainable and ethical options.
